Section Three:  EXCESSING
The third group, "Excessing", is a darker palette and tone, reflecting the chaotic desolation felt when one is convinced that inspiration is gone forever.  When Demeter is told that Persephone has been taken down to the underworld, she becomes desolate.  Her joy and inspiration are gone and in her mourning, the earth becomes barren and dormant.  Jagged lines and star shapes represent the internal and external chaos felt here.  This will be Carol's stepping off point for her second exhibition in the future.

Carol uses bowl forms with lids to represent the oyster in all three groupings in this show.  In "Unknowing", the lid is not on the form at all, leaving it open to many creative thoughts represented by a glorious blend of marbles.  In "Seeking", the pedestal bowl's lid is starting to close, beginning to filter creative thoughts.  "Excessing" presents us with a bowl completely closed.  This bowl looks as if nothing is happening inside but we know that the most activity is going on now.  Gestation, re-creation, birthing, something entirely new.  (Have a peek inside!)
MURALS
Each grouping uses a wall mural to focus the energy of the theme.  Joyful, frantic and chaotic; these murals convey the different emotional states of each section.
MOBILES
Throughout the entire show, mobiles represent the ever present raining down of impressions.

BOWL FORMS
An oyster creating a pearl is the last metaphor for this creative process which Carol uses.  When the shell is open, the oyster takes in everything indiscriminately, not judging or filtering.  As an artist, one needs to remain open to all inspiration, not judging or filtering.

As the oyster closes its shell, more and more is expelled, leaving the perfect grain of sand which will grow into a pearl.
